Our Palm trees are all of the hardy variety and are all in the easy care sector so you don't have to worry about cold winters damaging them or if you neglect them a little, they won't just die. All of our hardy tropicals and Big leaf plants and trees are really easy to care for or we say they are gardening for people that don't like to garden. All of our plants and trees have been planted in the finest quality container compost to promote strong and healthy growth. All this has been placed in a stunning iQbana EPP cube that has been designed to sit well in either a traditional or contemporary setting. Our iQbana planters are environmentally friendly, virtually indestructible, resistant to frost to -40 degrees and keep the roots insulated in the summer and winter and then all topped off with the decorative stone of your choice.
The Chamaerops Humilis or European fan palm is at home in shade as much as in the sun. Mature branching specimens form breath-taking sculptural declarations of nature and are a must for any tropical or contemporary garden design. No matter if in the ground or planter they will thrive. The Chamaerops does not grow tall (full maturity is 6ft) but it does have multiple stems so is great for privacy or creating low level statement. Similarly to Olive this palm has the ability to regenerate after a fire, making it highly useful in conservation of natural habitats i.e. very hard to kill! The Chamaerops is as I have said not a tall growing palm and in a tropical garden where you are planting in the ground they are great to plant at the base of taller palms such as Trachycarpus and Cordyline. By clearing the lower fronds you can under plant it with small contrasting textures of perennials and herbs. It’s toughness and wind resistant foliage makes it one the most useful plants I can use on exposed roof terraces. I like the Chamaerops in a planter as they just love it and they thrive. So, easy care, hard to kill, stunning architecturally and a great addition to any garden, patio or decking.
The Chamaeropsare the second most frost hardy palms that can be grown in Britain and also the easiest to look after, second only to the Trachycarpus fortunei from North China. From a care perspective they are as simple as it gets to look after, they don't fall over dead at the sight of a snow flake or shrivel up without water after a week, they are real strong and are also stunning. They are particularly useful by the seaside as, unlike Trachycarpus, they have smaller more flexible leaves that suffer very much less in strong winds.
They are simple to keep in top form if you really want to but even with very little care they thrive. If you want to go the extra mile then feed well ('Blood, Fish and Bone' in March, April, May and June seems to work well) and to remove any leaf that has lots of brown or yellow on it - we call this 'Brown Bitting'. They will grow equally well in sun or shade. In the shade, the leaf stalks (petioles) become much longer and extended giving the plant a more open appearance. Unlike Trachycarpus, they are really love it in pots, looking stunning for many years. As with all plants, water well when first planted.
The main reason you should buy from Bentleys is because we show you exactly what you are buying, not an image of what your purchase will look like in years to come, like many others. We show you genuine images shot in our own studios of the item you are buying......ALSO
